NTC shortlisted for the 2023 Zayed Sustainability Prize
One of the areas that the NTC Community provides itself on is the opportunities and activities we encourage our students and staff to become involved in. This helps to promote our vision of students being curious, caring and creative.
In 2022 we were fortunate to be supported in the development of our Nature Reserve. Advice and financial support has enabled the school to install a renewable energy source, a remote, WiFi enabled weather station and a series of cameras to monitor the wildlife we have in the Reserve. Students across all Year Groups are involved in the Reserve, from recording insect life, preparing our wildlife pond through to reviewing and editing the footage from our cameras. This has enabled us to promote the idea of sustainability and connection to the natural world. The Reserve can be viewed online here: https://ntcnature.blogspot.com/
The work that our students have undertaken at the Reserve is recognised as being a model of how the curriculum can be developed in all subjects, especially science, mathematics and computer science.
The exciting news is that NTC are finalists in the Zayed Sustainability Prize 2023 https://www.zayedsustainabilityprize.com/. The prize attracted 4500 entries worldwide. NTC are in the final 3 for Europe and Central Asia. Should we be selected from the final 3, NTC students will benefit from a donation of $55,000. This will be used to further develop our Reserve, including the installation of a remote classroom, enhanced renewable energy systems and a rebuilt wildlife pond. This will enable even greater connections to nature to be built.
The winner of the prize will be announced on the 16th January 2023. As finalists, a member of staff and 2 students have been asked to attend the awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
Established in 2008, the Zayed Sustainability Prize is the UAE’s pioneering annual global award which recognises and rewards the achievements of those driving impactful, innovative and inspiring sustainability solutions across five distinct categories: Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools. It is a tribute to the legacy of the late founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
