What Is Special About This Subject?
It allows students to be curious about different media sectors, developing an understanding through being creative and producing their own media. They can also understand how digital products are constructed and how the representations of people are presented and interpreted by different audiences.
What Is The Learning Journey Through This Subject?
Key Stage 4 – BTEC Media Studies
Media Studies covers a broad range of topics from TV and film, radio and advertising and even computer games. Media Studies will give you a great opportunity to academically discover the key issues relating to the Media, as well as, discuss current trends and issues within the different sectors of the industry.
WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THIS COURSE?
Over the course of two years you will study interrelated units of work which will give you a broad understanding of the Media industry. These units include:
- Research and Understanding the Media Industry
- Animation Planning and Techniques
- Audio Production
- Magazine Publishing Production
- Advertising Production for Television
HOW IS THIS QUALIFICATION TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
There is two externally assessed units as part of this course, one exam based and once coursework unit. The remainder being made up of internally assessed practical coursework units.
You need a creative, focused mind, good written skills and be able to work independently or as part of a group. You will be encouraged to work in small production teams to produce a range of media products (podcasts, poster, TV adverts) which will form the basis of your assessment for this course.
WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I ACHIEVE?
At the end of the course you will be awarded a BTEC Level 2 Award in Creative Media Production and is equivalent to one GCSE.
WHERE WILL THIS QUALIFICATION TAKE ME?
This course leads on perfectly to a BTEC National Certificate in Media or IB Film Studies at sixth form level (which we offer at NTC), or a range of other Level 3 Media based courses such as A-Level Media Studies.
