BTEC or AS/ A2 levels: BTEC Foundation Diploma(540GLH)1.5 Alevel equivalent/Diploma (720GLH) – equivalent to 2 A levels

Method of assessment: Continuous, no exams, assignment based

Information about the course to include units covered

The level 3 Sport course consists of 4 mandatory units of which are externally assessed and 3 optional units. The Anatomy & Physiology unit is the written exam and the Fitness Training & Programming for Health, Sport & Well-Being is a controlled assessment where the task is set and marked externally.

The 3 optional units are composed of several assignments which cover the assessment criteria in a variety of ways. Students work with the teacher and independently to complete the work. Students studying this course need to be well organised, good at working to deadlines and be interested in Sports or leisure. The course units are as follow:

  • Fitness Training & Programming for Health, Sport & Well-Being Exercise, Health and Lifestyle (practical exam)
  • Professional Development in the Sports Industry
  • Sports Leadership

  • Coaching for Performance
  • Research Methods in Sport
  • Sport Event Organisation
  • Research Project in Sport

Further to this students can progress onto extended courses that are bespoke and designed to build skills for particular jobs in the sports workplace.

Entry requirements: Level 2 BTEC in Sport (Pass) or GCSE Physical Education (C grade)

Possible exit routes: Fitness Services, Leisure Operations, Sports Performance and Excellence, HND Sports/Coaching, Coaching/Sports Science/teaching degree at University.
