BTEC Business

What will I learn on this course?

The BTEC qualification in Business is designed to give you a good insight into the lucrative world of Business. The course has been designed with the student in mind; we have tried to incorporate many successful activities from the past and many more new ones.

The most successful businesses in this world are those that have “kept it real”;therefore we have tried to do the same with this course. You will study the following units during the course:

  • Unit 1 – Enterprise in the business world
  • Unit 2 – Finance for business (External Examination Unit)
  • Unit 3 – Promoting a brand
  • Unit 8 – Recruitment, selection and employment

How is this qualification taught and assessed?

In some units you will be expected to work independently to produce a business report for each topic that you study. The report can be in the format that you choose, using different ICT programs that best reflect the information to meet the criteria.  Students have made REAL adverts, presented to a REAL life panel of judges, been interviewed by peers and REAL employers. All these activities have then contributed to their overall mark for each unit of work.

The qualification is heavily based on independent coursework. One of the units will be externally assessed as an examination and the others are assessed on the coursework you have built up over the course. Work for the coursework units is mainly presented in an assignment format.

What qualification will I achieve?

You will achieve a Level 2 BTEC Award in Business (equivalent to 1 GCSE).

Where will this qualification take me?

This qualification can lead to further study at Sixth Form with the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 in Business or access to a CISI Diploma in Finance, Risk & Investment.
