David Paine Spelling Shield 2017.
Since September the year 7 students have been practicing weekly to take part in an inter-community spelling bee competition. The event took place on Wednesday 8 December; 2 students from each of the 5 communities battled it out to see who would win the David Paine Spelling Shield. The students competed in ten rounds where they had to spell words forwards, backwards, quickly and in Ping-Pong style. Newton community won the shield with the narrow victory of just one word. The two winning students will now move forward and represent the school in a inter school competition next year.
